KCP Parent Member Responsibilities | back to top |
In order for KCP to function as a non-profit co-op, and to maintain its affiliation with the
technical college, we have several membership requirements:
Each parent is required to work one scheduled day per week, per child enrolled in school.
The only exception to this is the parents of multiples in Group I. For a more in depth
explanation contact the Registrar. Because of insurance requirements, unenrolled siblings
will not be allowed to attend KCP. If unable to attend a workday, it is the parent's responsibility
to find a substitute for that day by calling other parents on your class roster. If you must
miss, because of sudden illness or other unforeseen reason, each parent is encouraged to make
up the missed day ASAP. This can be accomplished by attending a field trip, which does not
fall on your workday, work an extra day at school or speak to the teacher and ask if there
is an extra project that needs to be completed at school.
At least one parent's attendance at the monthly evening parent meeting is mandatory.
This is required to maintain LWTC's Home and Family Life Program's parent education commitment.
The meetings are informative, lots of fun for all and a great way to become a part of a
community. Only non-mobile, and or nursing babies may attend these evening meetings.
NOTE: These first two responsibilities are of such
importance to the success of KCP that
any parent who misses more than two evening meetings, and/or two workdays without a
make-up may have their membership in KCP forfeited. Finding work day replacements and
performing make-ups for any missed obligation at school is the parent's responsibility.
Each parent is required to serve on a committee or hold a board position. These two
elements of KCP function to keep the school running and provide an extremely important
service to the school. Each family will have one committee job, regardless of the number
of children they have enrolled in the school. The sign up sheet for committee jobs
will be at the first parent meeting prior to the first day of school.
Each family is required to meet a $25 fundraising commitment by simply donating that
amount to KCP, or by participating in a KCP fundraiser to the extent that your efforts
will raise $25 for the school. Because KCP is a non-profit organization and a co-op
with low tuition costs we rely upon our fundraising activities to supplement the school's
income.
We ask that each family fill out and return all the required forms prior to attending
their first day of school. Children will not be able to attend class until all forms
are filed with the Parent Leader. The required forms include a copy of your
child's immunization record, automobile insurance information, the results of your TB test, as well as
various other forms, which require general information.
For the safety of all children enrolled in KCP, each participating parent must submit to
a background check through the Washington State Patrol. These background checks are done,
with great sensitivity for the privacy of all involved.
Registration, tuition and insurance fees are the responsibility of each family to pay to KCP
in a timely fashion. Registration fees are to be paid per class enrolled (twins will only
pay one registration fee), while tuition and insurance fees are to be paid per child enrolled
in the school. If KCP's tuition payment becomes too large a burden on a family, the school
has developed a scholarship program to assist them.
For Groups I & II, each family will rotate through Snack/Quiet room parent. This job
requires the family to provide snack for the whole class while they are assigned that
job for that month. In Group III, each child will
bring his or her own snack to school, so this does not apply.
Per our contract with the church, the preschool space must be thoroughly cleaned each
weekend and prepared for the church's Sunday school classes. Two KCP members will be
assigned to clean each week. All parents (Board Members exempt)
clean approximately 2-3 times during the school year.
KCP General Information | back to top |
Due to insurance requirements, siblings of KCP students may not be in attendance while school
is in session. The only two exceptions to this are, when a class goes on a field trip and
when a family is just returning from maternity leave. For further explanation of theses two
instances, contact the registrar.
KCP does not offer sibling childcare services. However, Lake Washington
Technical College does have an onsite Early Learning Center which serves LWTC
students and state employees. Since KCP parents are registered students, they
are eligible for discounted rates and flexible childcare schedules. For more
information please see the
LWTC
Early Learning Center website.
Each year KCP adopts a needy family for the Holidays. In early November there will be a food
drive and then in early December a gift drive. It is a loving and generous philanthropic
thing that the school gets to do for another member of our community.
Registration occurs each year beginning January 1st. Current KCP families get first priority
to sign their children up for the following school year. This registration period begins on
January 1st and then open registration to the rest of the public begins on February 1st.
Alumni of KCP are welcome to register their children beginning on January 1st.
KCP follows the Lake Washington School District's calendar. When they go on vacation so do
we. On half days and conference days for the Lake Washington School District, KCP will
attend class as usual. On the days when the school district has late start, or has cancelled
school because of snow, there will be no preschool.
The first day of school is the third Monday of September, and the last day of school every
year is the final Thursday of May. Graduation, for those going to Kindergarten will also
occur in the last week in May.
Each year KCP organizes a Mom's Retreat. This is a chance for moms only to have a great
time shopping, laughing, talking and being together.
Every year just prior to the end of school the board generates a summer park schedule.
Generally, one weekday morning, families that wish to participate gather at a park in
Kirkland. This enables new, returning and past families to come together during the
long summer break from school.
