About The Programs

Placeholder Image Only Group I (ages 2 1/2 - 3 1/2) This class provides a smooth transition from home to school and an introduction to group activity. The child/adult ratio is 2:1. Group I meets two mornings per week; Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 - 11:30. A typical morning includes art projects, story time, free choice time (blocks, dress-up, puzzles, games and more), show and tell, snack and outdoor play.

Group II (Ages 3 1/2 - 4 1/2) This class encourages continued social and emotional development through group participation as children explore the world around them. The child/adult ratio is 3:1. Group II meets three mornings per week; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 - 11:30. The class incorporates themes such as dinosaurs or friendship into the art, science, music, stories and play activities.

Group III (ages 4 1/4 and up) This class emphasizes independence through frequent field trips and by involving the children themselves in classroom responsibilities. The child/adult ratio is 4:1. Group III meets four afternoons a week; Mondays through Thursdays from 12:15 - 2:45. This group offers the widest and most structured range of activities in the preschool.

About the Teachers

Teacher Pam (Pam Fenton) teaches groups I and III. She has a degree in elementary education from Montana State University and was a "KCP mom" prior to teaching here. She has been a KCP teacher since 1986. In her own words, "KCP offers a nurturing atmosphere designed for the welfare and interests of the families. I enjoy watching, and learning from, children and parents learning and playing together.

Teacher Doreen (Doreen Fisher) teaches group II. She has a BA and teaching degree from San Jose State University and was a "KCP mom" prior to teaching here. She previously taught elementary school in Mountain View, CA and enjoys the distinction of having been hand picked by her predecessor, Carol Smith, who started teaching at KCP in the 1960's. She has been a KCP teacher since 2000. In her own words, "Kirkland Co-op Preschool is a wonderful, supportive environment for both children and parents."

Neighbors and Associates

Lake Washington Parent/Toddler Group is a non-profit parent education cooperative program sponsored by Lake Washington Technical College, serving Eastside families since 1980.  The mission of our program is to promote the development of knowledge and skills for strong and healthy families.

Lake Washington Technical College is a community resource that offers accreditated professional development programs, job training and job placement services.

Redmond Toddler Group is a cooperative Parent Education Program, affiliated with Lake Washington Technical College.
