About The Activities

Since starting out in a chicken coop on Finn Hill in 1947, activities at Kirkland Co-op Preschool have not changed much. Children still learn best by playing and becoming social beings. We follow the children's lead when planning our activities.

We have 3 large classrooms with different developmentally appropriate activities set up in each one. The art room has a sensory table, water table, chalkboard, art table, playdough/activity table, free-form art creation station, and easels. The quiet room has puzzles, games, books, science activities, trains, legos and other small manipulatives.

In the active room we have large and small blocks, dress-up area, play kitchen, dolls, cars and trucks, doll houses, trains, math games, musical instruments, puppets, a genuine record player and a writing center.

We are also lucky enough to have almost ¼ acre outdoor playground. There is a playhouse, a large wooden ship ready for any explorer, a workshop/toy shed, swings, slides, gravel for digging and a large collection of riding toys we use in the blocked-off parking lot.

Each class does various field trips, depending on their age and interests. We attend the plays presented by Storybook Theater at the Kirkland Performance Center, go to the pumpkin patch in the fall, the Kirkland Library and other locations.

We also have Dads' Nights twice a year. The first is in the fall when we carve pumpkins. The last is right before Mother's Day!

Parents help the teachers plan the activities on a monthly basis. Everyone's ideas and talents are welcome at KCP!
